Jimmer Fredette: The Class Action…Shoot!
Sunday, April 17th, 2011
I wanted to talk about all the attention Brigham Young University’s (BYU), All-American basketball player and potential NBA first round pick, Jimmer Fredette has been getting. Jimmer was voted the 2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, Wooden Award winner, Naismith Award winner, Adolph Rupp trophy winner, and Oscar Robertson trophy winner. Now, we have been very descriptive here in The War Room in regards to Jimmer’s rare skill set and his dominance of the NCAA this year. This dominance has included multiple 40 point performances off of an array of long three pointers, pull up jumpers, cross over dribbles, in and out dribbles, hesitations, lefty layups, floaters, between the legs and behind the back dribbles, and supreme confidence.
It was reported last week that Jimmer was banned from attending classes at BYU because the university felt that he was too much of a distraction on campus and in the classroom. Now let’s be mindful, BYU is not used to having such a college star grace its campus even though they have had 2 Super Bowl winning QB’s in Jim McMahon and Steve Young, and an NBA championship guard named Danny Ainge.
In my opinion, I think that is a bit much to tell Jimmer that he has to take the rest of his classes during his senior year online, but hey, BYU abides by their own rules (see BYU Honor Code) My only questions are: Will he be able to attend his graduation? If not, that means he has to get his degree scanned and emailed to him. My second question is, Did the university do this for fear that the female students would be more tempted to break the honor code with Jimmer because of his fame and stardom? I can’t call it, I just wish Jimmer and his current girlfriend (Whitney Wonnacott) the best and I hope he has a successful NBA career.

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011What You Hatin’ For?
Friday, March 25th, 2011Watching this current NBA season I have gained a new level of respect for Kobe Bean Bryant. Now I have always known he was a great player destined for the hall of fame but this season gave me a new perspective on just how mentally strong he is. In the words of my comrade PJ “Kobe has the body of a 50 year old!” What’s amazing to me is the way he deals with his injuries and stays focused on the big picture.
After the last lost to the Miami Heatles instead of just relaxing knowing he is a 5 time champion, he instead went to work on his shot after the game. Then after watching him get a sprained ankle I thought he would be out a least a week, considering Boozer just missed 5 games with the same injury, but he didn’t miss a game.
This in my opinion is what separates him from every other player in the league. Now I know all of the “King James” fans probably won’t read this entire post, but if you do I got love for you, and if you don’t Marshall Faulk You and go Cheddar Bob yourself!
The funny thing is, the more I recognize Kobe’s mental toughness he seems to get more hate. In the words of the legendary Philly rap crew Major Figgas “What you hatin’ for?” People in Philly say they hate him because “he disrespected the Sixers in their fans in the finals!” So What! Get over it! Then you have the Lebron fans who refuse to give him credit because in their words “Lebron makes his team better!” And Kobe doesn’t? Lmao!!!! Or they hit you with the “Kobe always had help and Lebron didn’t!” First off that’s just dumb, and I need people to start forming their own opinion and stop repeating nonsense they hear! Michael Jordan had a hall of fame running mate, Bill Russell had more than one hall of famer on his championship teams, when Wilt won titles he had hall of fame help, Dr J. had hall of fame help, Isiah had hall of fame help, and by this time you get the point and if not immediately go to the highest floor possible of wherever you are and jump right now! Another funny one is “He is arrogant!” Lmao! Name me one great player that isn’t arrogant. The hate gets so bad that after Kobe scored 42 pts in a triple overtime game I received an email with this pic attached.
I’m not just talking to Lebron fans. I have had this debate with Iverson fans, Vince Carter fans, T-Slack fans, D. Wade fans, and now Lebron fans. That brings up another point. All of the guys I mentioned at one point in time were “supposed” to be the best player in the league but there has been one constant during all this time and that has been Kobe.
There is a difference between being a great player and being a winner. Then there is a difference between being a winner and being champion. I consider myself a student of the game and when I look at the history of the game there were only a handful of players that had the mental toughness that made them a champion. Guys like Jordan, Russell, Bird, Magic, and Kobe. As great as Wilt was he didn’t care enough about the game. He had his mind on breaking the BYU honor code as many times as humanly possible. Wilt was a winner but Russell was a champion.
Now I know all the Kobe haters, if they are still reading at this point, are sick or saying hateful things about him and that’s expected. I too have had players I didn’t like. Most people think Jordan was the GOAT but I don’t and I also didn’t like his a$$ when he played. In fact I don’t like him to the point that I call him Thed. Thed is an acronym that stands for “The Hooped Earring Dude”. I didn’t like Thed to the point that I never owned a pair of Jordans. (I had to make an exception for the Jordan III’s and XI’s because those were as hot as fishgrease cooked on August 18th!) The difference is my hate for Jordan didn’t cloud my judgment when it came to his game. Mike was a monster and he was one of the greatest players to ever do it! He was still a cornball that wore a wack a$$ hoop earing.
My point is, because you don’t like Kobe for something that has nothing to do with basketball don’t judge his game based on that. I can understand not liking him but I hear Kobe detractors use that as the reasons why he isn’t the best playing or even a great player. Learn to separate your hate for the man from your judgment of him as a player. You have a chance to watch one of the greatest to ever do it, so appreciate it. Now for all the Kobe haters that made it this far; You may now start hating!!!
Isiah Thomas: Not Again!
Friday, March 18th, 2011Now in the words of Amare Stoudemire “The Knicks are back” and that is primarily due to the decisions made by GM Donnie Walsh. He has completely revamped a roster that has been deplorable in recent history and for the first time in years the Knicks are like Charlie Sheen and they are “Winning”.
With that being said I constantly hear rumors that the Knicks owner regularly consults with former Knicks Coach/President Isiah Thomas and I’m baffled as to why he would do so. I can sit here and name several horrible decisions that Isiah made when running the Knicks but I will just say that Isiah traded for Eddy Curry.
Why is James Dolan still consulting him, and why are there rumors about him coming back to the Knicks. Even if it is not true Mr. Dolan should have said so. If it is true I believe Isiah has pictures of Mr. Dolan with a “low pro hoe that’s cut like an afro”. There is no other logical explanation as to why Isaih would still have anything to do with the Knicks in any capacity. The Knicks were so bad under Isaih that I would rather watch Jodeci perform on The Varnell Hill Show then to watch Isiah’s teams play. So Mr Dolan do me and all of N.Y. a favor and cut it the hell out!!!

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011“White Moses” or “The Mulatto Intercontinental Champion”: Kevin Love vs Blake Griffin
Friday, January 28th, 2011Kevin Love a.k.a. “White Moses” and Blake Griffin a.k.a. “The Mulatto Intercontinental Champion” are both having all-star caliber years but both may not make the all-star game. If you the fan had your choice; what would it be? Love is averaging 22 ppg and 16 reb while Griffin is averaging 23 ppg and 13 reb and at least 2 highlights per week that make you wonder if he is really human or was he created by a scientist off the Fox show Fringe.
I know the all-star game is supposed to be an exhibition and Blake is the more exciting player but, “White Moses” puts up 30’s and 20’s like most big men (No Mendenhall) put up 20’s and 10’s. Many will say that the team’s record should matter but let’s be honest; BOTH TEAMS STINK! Asking who is a better team is like asking what smells worst trash or garbage.
This will be a tough choice. I think both players are playing great. I appreciate the way that Kevin Love plays but I would also be excited to watch Griffin play with Deron Williams a.k.a. “The Mulatto Heavyweight Champion”. I hope they both make it but if it comes down to one or the other it would be an impossible decision for me.
What are your thoughts? If only one can go, who should it be?
Or
My Thoughts on The Lock Outs
Wednesday, January 26th, 2011In The War Room I have been known to talk a lot of trash about people and I have received tweets and messages on The Book where people have called me a hater, and some have even said I don’t like anything. To quote the great poet Common “If I don’t like it I don’t like it don’t mean that I’m hating”!
At any rate instead of talking about what I don’t like, I have decided to talk about what I am thankful for in sports. I am thankful for David Stern and Roger Godell.
David Stern in my opinion is the greatest commissioner in all of sports. He transformed the NBA from a league full of angry drug addicts to an international game with many stars and memorable moments.
Roger Godell or as I sometimes call him King Roger or Dumbledore has taken control of the league and held players accountable for their actions both on and off the field. I respect him for that and I wish Bud Selig would grow some Gonads (No Mendenhall) and run his league with the same enthusiasm and stern hand.
I love both the NBA, and the NFL, but I am worried as both leagues are facing an impending lockout. Stern and Billy Hunter as well as Godell and Demaurice Smith need to make sure this doesn’t happen. I understand it is not that simple and I understand that changes need to be made, but no one wins if there is a lockout in either league. Especially the fans; the ones who pay their salaries.
If there is a lockout please don’t try to appease us by giving us scab players or any kind of shortened season. Trying to watch the NBA without the star players is like trying to watch Sanford and Son when Fred was on vacation in Saint Luis and Grady was the main character. No one wants to see that MR. Stern!
The same goes for the NFL. I do not want to see any scab players! Please no! That is like watching Martin Episodes where Gina wasn’t on the show. It was still Martin but it just wasn’t the same without Gina!
Don’t become like that jabroni Bud Selig who refuses to let Pete Rose in the hall of fame but allows his locker rooms to rival the biggest pharmacies in America when it comes to the availability of drugs. This idiot allowed a baseball strike, cancellation of The World Series, and allowed an all-star game to end in a tie. Bud Selig runs Major League Baseball as though he went to the Enron School of Business.
The bottom line is you guys have done a tremendous job running your leagues and now it is time to make sure you don’t throw it all away. Do whatever you have to; to make sure the fans have our Football and Basketball. If you do I personally promise to pay for you’re over priced NFL Sunday Ticket and NBA package.
I’m Nice!!!
