My Thoughts on The Lock Outs

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

In The War Room I have been known to talk a lot of trash about people and I have received tweets and messages on The Book where people have called me a hater, and some have even said I don’t like anything. To quote the great poet Common “If I don’t like it I don’t like it don’t mean that I’m hating”!

At any rate instead of talking about what I don’t like, I have decided to talk about what I am thankful for in sports. I am thankful for David Stern and Roger Godell.

David Stern in my opinion is the greatest commissioner in all of sports. He transformed the NBA from a league full of angry drug addicts to an international game with many stars and memorable moments.

Roger Godell or as I sometimes call him King Roger or Dumbledore has taken control of the league and held players accountable for their actions both on and off the field. I respect him for that and I wish Bud Selig would grow some Gonads (No Mendenhall) and run his league with the same enthusiasm and stern hand.

I love both the NBA, and the NFL, but I am worried as both leagues are facing an impending lockout. Stern and Billy Hunter as well as Godell and Demaurice Smith need to make sure this doesn’t happen. I understand it is not that simple and I understand that changes need to be made, but no one wins if there is a lockout in either league. Especially the fans; the ones who pay their salaries.

If there is a lockout please don’t try to appease us by giving us scab players or any kind of shortened season. Trying to watch the NBA without the star players is like trying to watch Sanford and Son when Fred was on vacation in Saint Luis and Grady was the main character. No one wants to see that MR. Stern!

The same goes for the NFL. I do not want to see any scab players! Please no! That is like watching Martin Episodes where Gina wasn’t on the show. It was still Martin but it just wasn’t the same without Gina!

Don’t become like that jabroni Bud Selig who refuses to let Pete Rose in the hall of fame but allows his locker rooms to rival the biggest pharmacies in America when it comes to the availability of drugs. This idiot allowed a baseball strike, cancellation of The World Series, and allowed an all-star game to end in a tie. Bud Selig runs Major League Baseball as though he went to the Enron School of Business.

The bottom line is you guys have done a tremendous job running your leagues and now it is time to make sure you don’t throw it all away. Do whatever you have to; to make sure the fans have our Football and Basketball. If you do I personally promise to pay for you’re over priced NFL Sunday Ticket and NBA package.

I’m Nice!!!

Old Purple Hands

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

First off I want to start by saying these are not the opinions of all of The War Room Generals but these are my personal thoughts.

With that being said Brett Favre aka “Old Purple Hands” is a bum! Anyone who listens to the War Room knows that I think he is the most overrated athlete in the history of sports. You may have the masses fooled but not me old head.

You are a walking interception and a sitting fumble. You have always been selfish and have put yourself before your team. The bottom line is You sir are a male Diva and eating a snickers won’t make you a man again.

Now you have acted like a fool off the field and many see you for what you are. Which is a disgrace. You have embarrassed your family, your fans, the city of Green Bay, and Minnesota. So now not are you only an overrated QB but you are a dirty old man who likes to send pictures of his man region to women who find you repulsive.

I also blame you for Jay Cutler! You made young QB’s think it was alright to make stupid passes in the name of being a “gunslinger”. FOH Old Purple Hands!!!

I’m just glad you are retiring. Well hopefully you are. We know how you do you diseased rhinoceros pizzle. You may wake up tomorrow and decide you are coming back and some idiot coach will give you a run. Hopefully when I go to the toy store with my nephew I will no longer have to see your action figure.

If you do decide to come back I hope you decide to change your cell phone plan and get rid of unlimited text messages!

I’m Nice!!!

Big Ben Gets Violated!

Monday, January 24th, 2011

We live in a world where every move you make can be seen by millions faster than you can say “Big Ben Touched Me Inappropriately”. With that being said WTF is wrong with the Steelers Running Back Rashard Mendenhall!! If you don’t know what I am talking about watch the clip below…

After the Pittsburgh Steelers clinched the Lamar Hunt Trophy and a trip to the Super Bowl he was so excited he decided to treat Big Ben like he was a young lady in a bathroom stall. I am not homophobic but when I am watching the AFC Championship I don’t want to see Big Ben get his man hymen broken. This should be investigated the same way the Janet Jackson incident was. Not just because it was an egregious act on behalf of the Princess Boy Mendenhall but because it would force Big Ben to watch himself get man raped over and over and over again…

Cam Newton: “Rules of Engagement”

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Why is it that we now live in a society where we live to put you up only to knock you down?  When did we become social predators showing the fangs of jealously instead of patting your fellow man on the back?

When you put an inkling of doubt into someone’s head, you will never get it out.  There will always be whispers of “what if he did it, what if he didn’t”.  There are countless examples of what I mean, but for this instance I will choose just one.

Cam Newton is one of the best, if not the best athlete to have hit college turf.  He’s won The Heisman, he just won the BCS Championship along with his team, but yet he is being overshadowed by exploitation, greed, and the wrong doings of others, and you better believe that sooner or later it’s going to bite him right where it counts.  Instead of a “congratulations”, he is getting the “Scarlett Letter” of sports stamped right on his chest…the BIG “C” for cheater.

I’m not going to pretend that I know all the facts, because really nobody does.  This investigation has been so screwed up from the beginning that I’m not sure the real truth will ever come out.

Here is what I do know…

First, the story is the Auburn quarterback and his father had put him on the auctioning table to be bought by the highest bidder.  Now we find out that he had no idea what was going on and that his father acted alone.

It didn’t matter that the NCAA had all the facts.  All they wanted to do was make this go away.  So what do they do decide to do?  Deem him ineligible following the NCAA amateurism rules, only to reinstate him the next day, finding they had no sufficient evidence to keep him from playing football and winning every trophy he was eligible to receive.

After all is said and done, this blemish on Cam Newton’s record is very present and does not seem to be going away anytime soon.

If the NCAA later finds Newton was involved along with his father and other unknowns in selling himself on the black market of football, then I will come to the conclusion that the NCAA has found no more use for Cam Newton and has thrown him to the wolves to satisfy the blood craving of those who need to see an artificial justice to make themselves feel relevant and important.

My ramblings are not about the boy and whether or not he made a poor choice, but a much bigger picture.  A picture of how the NCAA and the universities & colleges recruit these young men and women, only to have them “slum it” for four years eating Oodles of Noodles, secluding themselves and cutting off their social circles, because if you just so happen to buy them a drink, they may get kicked out of their selected program.  These kids have special talents, but they are much more than the talent they have.  They belong to a family that may depend on them.  They give up a lot to reach their potential, only to become sacrificial lambs.  They are human and they make mistakes and may want or need more than what these prospective organizations can offer.

I do not condone rule breaking but there is nothing to lose in changing the rules.  I am sure I will be perceived as giving these guys an excuse to take the gifts that are given to them, but this is my opinion and if you don’t like it then you should stop reading right now.  Like it or not this is a business, a profitable business that should be held accountable for their part in why this happens to what seems like all the time with young athletes.   I can’t tell you how it is to be a highly skilled athlete in college, but I can tell you what it is like to be me in college, and it wasn’t all gum drops and rainbows.  I had a full-time job plus a full course load, so I can imagine what these highly publicized athletes have to endure.

Maybe one day someone with authority in the NCAA will look at the rules and see that they are a little lopsided.  Maybe one day it will change, but for now I’ll look to papers to see which young athlete will be next to get the “Scarlett Letter” of “C” on their chest.
