It was only the first preseason win for the Philadelphia Eagles after three games, but it came right on time with the Birds’ 31-21 defeat over the Pittsburgh Steelers. During their preseason home opener on Thursday night, the starters on both sides of the ball put in a strong showing to ease lingering concerns as the regular season looms near.

The defense had the most to prove this game, and they did just that by shutting out the Steelers in the first half. At halftime, the Birds were up 17-0, and Philadelphia held on to an impressive 31-7 lead late into the fourth quarter. Notably, Pittsburgh kept their starters in the game until the third quarter but still couldn’t make much happen against the Eagles D. That’s what you like in the so-called dress rehearsal prior to the start of the season.

Defensive highlights included an interception by corner Nolan Carroll in the first half, and linebacker Mychal Kendricks had a standout performance with 4 tackles and a quarterback pressure. Safety Malcolm Jenkins eased some concern about the secondary by batting away a ball intended for Pittsburgh wideout Antonio Brown.

Both sides of the ball were impressive, with the offense also putting in a strong showing. Nick Foles threw 19/29 for 179 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception, Mark Sanchez was 7 of 9 for 85 yards, and Jeremy Maclin had 6 receptions and 43 yards. And after a rocky start, the offensive line showed just how good they can be when firing on all cylinders and working together on Thursday night.

There were injury scares to both LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin, but they were thankfully just that–scares. Both returned to the field and quickly were back in action.

With good, there is always bad: Kicker Alex Henery missed a *31-yard* field goal attempt, so yeah…there is still a major problem on that front. One that can’t be left unanswered.

Next up: Players on the cusp will fight for their jobs next week against the Jets.

Week 1 of the NFL is behind us and there can be alot of things to be excited about. Rookies finally getting starts, players coming back from injuries, and one of the most outstanding single game performances we have ever seen. These are some of the important things that I learned while watching.

1. Peyton Manning is not human
Manning decided to open the season with an outstanding performance. SEVEN passing touchdowns against the Baltimore Ravens. The addition of Wes Welker helped, Demaryius Thomas is still catching TDs, and also the Ravens not having Ed Reed or Ray Lewis could have played a role.

2. Adrian Peterson could very well break the single season rushing TD record
We all know what type of running back AP is, but did we really think his very first carry would go for a touchdown? 78 yards straight to the house on the first play from scrimmage for the Vikings. Even though he only had 93 yards, he also had 3 TDs. 25 more in 15 games is possible.

3. The Steelers defense is not what it once was
This being my favorite team, it saddens me to say this, but the years of the Steelers ruling the defensive side of the ball are over. James Harrison gone, rush defense not as good, but at least they’re still making some type of effort, only losing by 7.

4. Geno Smith Prospering???
Even though playing the Bucs, Geno Smith and the NY Jets got a victory in Week 1. Smith threw for 256 yards and one TD, and also rushed six times for 47 yards. Now let’s not look too far into it because they play New England this week.

5. Tom Brady is still Tom Brady
They played the Bills…The game should not have been close at all in my opinion, but it became interesting late in the game. Tom Brady put together a game-winning drive (like usual) and the Patriots won by 2 with a late FG. Brady threw for 288 yards with 2 TDs. “Brady being Brady.”

6Chip Kelly’s offense is very exciting
The Eagles got a W to start the season off and Chip Kelly got the game ball afterwards. The fast-pace offense had a total of 77 offensive plays. It was great to see the “Oregon Style” offense in the NFL. Plus Mike Vick is the PERFECT guy to be running it.

7RG3 was nervous stepping back onto the field
Even though the Redskins put up a fight late in the game, RG3 did not look like himself in the first half of his game Monday night. Scared to take a hit of any kind. But as he got back into the groove of the game, he started stepping up and rushing a little bit. The Redskins still lost by 6.

8. Philip Rivers can’t close a game out
The Chargers were winning ALL GAME… Philip Rivers was having a great game. The Chargers defense was stepping up, making all the big stops needed. Houston started a comeback, and all Rivers needed to do was hold on to the football. Of course, deep in his own endzone, throws a pick 6 and Houston tied the game up. After that, Houston ends up kicking a FG to win the game. SMH… Same Ole Rivers.

9. Carson is on his way back!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying he is going to win MVP, but Arizona could be the best place for him. Not a bad defense, plus Larry Fitzgerald to throw to…not bad. Losing by 3 to the Rams isn’t a good start with a new team though.

10. Colin Kaepernick can throw the ball just a well as he can run
Playing the Green Bay Packers, Kaepernick stayed in the pocket more often than not. Throwing for 412 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, becoming the only 49ers QB (other than Joe Montana) to throw for 400 yards, 3 TDs, and 0 INTs.

Week 1 was very exciting and we have 15 more regular season weeks to go… And as for my Fantasy leagues, I went 4-1 so I’m a happy NFL fan
FOOTBALL IS BACK!!!!!

Osama Bin Laden is Dead: The Rashard Mendenhall Tweets

Rashard "Mendenhump"

This week, Pittsburgh Steelers Running Back Rashard “Mendenhump”…yeah…the guy that was caught having sex with Ben “Don’t say nothing just give it here” Roethlis-get-the-berger, went ahead and nobly, courageously, and with conviction, fell on his sword (pause) and signed the death warrant to his career by reaching into his heart with his mind (and his Twitter account) and pulling out these candid, profound, and incendiary words:

“What kind of person celebrates death?  It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…”

We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.”

“For those of you who said you want to see Bin Laden burn in hell and piss on his ashes, I ask how would God feel about your heart?”

“There is not an ignorant bone in my body. I just encourage you to #think

Let me first say that while I agree with his candor and his right to free speech, (hell, I even agree with his sentiments) one must take a catalogue of the things one has to lose in the court of public opinion when using Twitter.  It’s not about whether or not what you’re saying makes sense.  It’s about the fact that 80% of the world are “blind, deaf, and dumb…and mostly intrigued by the drum”…so they will not use intellect or depth to analyze your words.  They will take them as far as their limited perspective and truncated intellect will allow, and then…KABOOM!…the “Twitterverse” does the rest, as you hang by your proverbial neck, by the cords of misinterpretation, knee jerk overreaction, self righteous ignorance, and prideful, unjust condemnation!  SO…think before you press “send” on that tweet…and if it’s worth it to you, then go for it, because I, like most of the minority who understood “Mendenhump’s” position, applaud him speaking out.  However, the dominos have already begun to fall, considering the latest reports of Rashard Mendenhall being dropped from his endorsement deal with Champion.  Alright…that’s enough about idiots, Twitter, and the court of public opinion.

On to the REAL matter at hand…

The “celebration of death”.  What has changed from the day prior to our president’s announcement?…NOT A DAMN THING!  A martyr has been created.  That is all.

And anyone who is a spiritual person, whether it’s from an “Abrahamic” religion such as Christianity, Islam, or Judaism…whether you read the Quran, the Torah, or the Bible…NOWHERE is it correct to hate…NOWHERE is it correct to spread terror…and NOWHERE is it correct to celebrate death.  The people of New York, DC, and America in general suffered through one of the most horrific, publicized incidents in history…but hasn’t there been enough death?

And now…I’ll end this with a quote from my esteemed colleague and insightful co-host, Devin McMillan:

“To be COMPLETELY real with you all, this [the killing of Osama Bin Laden] is only ‘justice’ because this is what WE (Americans) deem it to be. Do you all know how many innocent civilians America has killed over the decades that we’ve occupied the Middle East?  I’m not defending these jackasses, but things like 9/11 don’t happen just because someone woke up angry one day and picked America out of a hat.  So they retaliate against decades of us killing their innocent people in the name of ‘democracy’, but when they do indeed retaliate on our soil or anywhere else in the world (which is also wrong), we deem them ‘terrorist’, because it isn’t carried out by a government or government forces.  Those guys aren’t anything more or less than militia groups and JUST LIKE US when the roles are reversed, they deem these acts as ‘JUSTICE’ for shit we’ve been doing to them for YEARS. I GUARANTEE you all that our civilian body count in the Middle East DWARFS that of what they accomplished here on 9/11. EVERYBODY is wrong in this situation…America, Al Qaeda, EVERYBODY.  And if you call yourself a Christian, Muslim, or ANYTHING else, it is plain wrong to celebrate someone’s murder…no matter how you slice it…PERIOD!”

Big Ben Gets Violated!

Monday, January 24th, 2011

We live in a world where every move you make can be seen by millions faster than you can say “Big Ben Touched Me Inappropriately”. With that being said WTF is wrong with the Steelers Running Back Rashard Mendenhall!! If you don’t know what I am talking about watch the clip below…

After the Pittsburgh Steelers clinched the Lamar Hunt Trophy and a trip to the Super Bowl he was so excited he decided to treat Big Ben like he was a young lady in a bathroom stall. I am not homophobic but when I am watching the AFC Championship I don’t want to see Big Ben get his man hymen broken. This should be investigated the same way the Janet Jackson incident was. Not just because it was an egregious act on behalf of the Princess Boy Mendenhall but because it would force Big Ben to watch himself get man raped over and over and over again…
